The National Frozen Foods Corporation, a major provider of produce throughout the United States, has issued a product recall of frozen vegetables after learning that some of the vegetables may pose serious health risks. It is believed that the frozen vegetable products could expose consumers to Listeria contamination.
The variety of frozen vegetables recalled by the National Frozen Foods Corporation is extremely popular among US consumers. The frozen green peas and mixed vegetables are included in frozen food products distributed under labels like Bountiful Harvest Green, First Green, Great Value, Live Smart and Market Pantry.
The product manufacturer became aware of the potentially dangerous food contamination after regular testing of food samples revealed the Listeria bacteria.
Thus far, there have not been any reports of consumers becoming ill as a result of consuming the frozen vegetables.
Although the recall was issued voluntarily by the National Frozen Foods Corporation, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was involved in the investigation into the potentially contaminated food products. It is likely that the recall was issued in order to protect the food manufacturer against product liability lawsuits in the event that any consumers became sick as a result of eating the contaminated vegetables.
It is imperative that consumers exercise caution and make sure that they do not eat any of the recalled vegetables because Listeria poses serious health risks, according to the FDA. Some of the negative health consequences of Listeria include fever, headaches, nausea, body pain and diarrhea. Among certain at-risk groups of people, such as young children, elderly people in poor health, and pregnant women, a Listeria infection can be deadly.
Anyone who has purchased the recalled frozen food products should discard them or return them to the grocery store for a refund. Although cooking vegetables may lower the risk of a Listeria infection, the only sure-fire way to avoid Listeria is to not eat contaminated food products.
